People Need To Lessen Their Energy Consumption To Prolong Lives Of Natural Resources

Electricity has become an integral part of our day-to-day lives. Electricity plays an important part in driving each and everything from mobile chargers to heavy appliances. With technology improving constantly and new gadgets being introduced daily, it has put a great demand of electricity across the globe. Rise in electricity consumption all over world is on a high and since most of electricity is produced from combustion of non renewable resources such as
fossil fuels or coals, large energy consumption has put much pressure on natural resources. Non renewable energy resources are already getting scarce with every passing day and huge load of electricity across the world does not boast too well for existence of our natural resources India is fourth largest consumer of electricity in world but it suffers from scarcity of electricity production capacity. It is fifth largest in world in energy generation at an electricity generation capacity of 225.133 GW. Per person yearly average household electricity consumption is 96 kWh and 288 kWh in rural and domestic areas in India respectively. It is in total contrast to European Union who has a global per person yearly average of 2600 kWh and 6200 kWh.

Per person total energy consumption of India, as of January 2012, stands at 778 kWh. To provide complete access to its population, it is estimated that India would need an investment of 130 billion dollars at least. Non renewable power plants of India generate about 87 % of total electricity while renewable power plants constitute about 13 % of installed capacity.
Energy resources are essential for human survival apart from food and water. Humans have already eaten up half of available resources hence it should be everybody’s primary concern to protect natural resources for future generations. One of many ways to preserve natural resources is to lessen energy consumption across the world. Some of ways by which you can do it are given below:

• Turn off lights when not in use
• Switch off appliances and plug them out of socket when you are done with their usage.
• Set your computers to sleep mode during period of inactivity
• Use compact fluorescent lamps instead of regular bulbs and lights for lesser consumption of electricity
• Use your ACs smartly as ACs consume huge power
• Use energy efficient appliances that consume less power
